Keynote Speaker Cary Bozeman

Governance Day was held on October 16, 2015 at the Kitsap County Administration Building in Port Orchard. The day began with Board member Nick Wyatt (LK03) facilitating a discussion on authenticity in leadership and the importance of being authentic in one’s personal leadership style. Authenticity is the first of seven leadership capacities the class will discuss as part of our Positive Leadership curriculum.

Sheriff Gary Simpson & Bremerton Councilman Greg Wheeler

Former Mayor of Bremerton, Cary Bozeman, was an inspiring keynote speaker. He spoke about leadership and how we are all products of our daily choices, not our circumstances. Kitsap History Museum Executive Director Dean Tingey and Curator Jeanine Greco engaged the class in a historical overview of Kitsap County. Carrie Eastman (LK11) led a panel discussion about what it’s like to be a public servant with local elected officials. The panel participants included: City of Bremerton Mayor, Patty Lent; Kitsap County Commissioner, Rob Gelder; City of Poulsbo Mayor, Becky Erickson; and Port of Kingston Commissioner, Bruce MacIntyre. Kitsap County Auditor, Dolores Gilmore; and Kyle Joyce, Elections Manager, enlightened the class on the election process in Kitsap County. The class was impressed with the efforts to make each election perfect.

officials. Over 20 elected officials participated in the roundtable lunch discussion. Afterwards, Chloe Thompson, Associate General Counsel for Port Madison Enterprises, shared with the class how county and Tribal governments work together. Kitsap County Volunteer Services Coordinator, Rebecca Pirtle, closed the day with a discussion of the governance of County advisory boards, current vacancies, and opportunities to serve. It was a great day of discovery into the inner workings of Kitsap County Governance.
